Soprano | Inspirational Speaker
Internationally acclaimed operatic soprano, Carol Ann Manzi is no stranger to the world of teaching her craft. When just an undergraduate student at Southern Connecticut State University, where she majored in foreign languages and minored in the Theatre Arts, she was invited repeatedly to give master classes to the entire music department on the voice and opera.
While a graduate student at Yale University's prestigious Music School, Miss Manzi was a student teacher to undergraduates seeking to study voice. Upon her graduation, she was invited to speak to the voice department on issues relating to the health and proper care of the voice, following bouts with illness and subsequent, extensive vocal therapy.
Miss Manzi served as Artist/Instructor for five years at The Greater Hartford Academy for the Performing Arts in Connecticut, where she taught classes in voice for singers, actors and a course on opera. This magnet arts high school housed a mix of minorities with suburban students, providing for a highly diverse classroom.
Manzi has trained voices in the private setting for over 20 years in Connecticut, Florida, Oregon and California. She has coached young pupils in preparation for major auditions and has given numerous master classes on audition techniques, performance deportment and correct repertoire choices.
After five highly successful seasons as a principle main stage artist, the Sarasota Opera invited Manzi to spend a season as director of the Youth Opera Program. For Opera Santa Barbara, she has taught for two seasons their "Opera in the Schools" program, bringing the joys of the human voice and opera to 6th graders. For Connecticut Opera she has toured as part of "Opera Express", also bringing opera into many schools and venues to various parts of the East Coast.
Most recently, Miss Manzi presented a master class entitled "The Color of Sound and Movement" for the Sonneblaume Dance Theatre in Santa Barbara, California, and was signed to the roster of Big Thought, Dallas, Texas's offshoot of the popular New York City based Young Audiences. For Big Thought, she will make presentations to students in the greater Dallas area, also on the concept of the "color of sound".
To her teaching, Miss Manzi brings a gentle but firm approach. It is her goal to inspire students to the sheer joys of music, no matter their level of talent and proficiency.
Miss Manzi currently resides and teaches in Santa Barbara, California.
